3 Oct 2006I noticed that rock’n’roll biographies inevitably name themselves using fragments of song titles or lyrics. I saw some Beatles/Beatle bios named “Ticket To Ride”, “I Me Mine” and of course “Magical Mystery Tour”. “Break On Through” and “No one here gets out alive” for Jim Morrison, and “Moonage Daydream”, “Strange Fascinations” and the obvious “Stardust” for Bowie.
It’s not that I have any problems with that – anyone buying these books is probably a big enough fan to appreciate it. It’s just amusing that every single band or artist with a big enough discography is likely to have created a line or two to supply would-be biographers. I wonder if they think about that when they’re writing.
A bit premature, I suppose, but I wonder – what would you like the biography of your life to be called?

Since before he was conceived. Men can’t bequeath colorblindness to boys. We can make our daughters carriers (and if the mom’s a carrier, there’s a 50-50 they’ll be colorblind too), and then my male grandchildren have a 50-50 chance of being colorblind. Basically, the mother has to be at least a carrier for the son to have a chance of being colorblind. The gene is on the X chromosome, you see, and recessive…

I’m afriad not – no history of colorblindness in her family. Such a shame…
You know the funny thing? Both me and my brother have boys, currently – if we don’t have girls, the gene might be lost completely (unless, my sister passed her mutated gene on to her daughter, and we understand how the odds are getting slimmer to salvage any of that in the future…). So sad…

Might as well use it. That way anyone gets something out of the book in any case.
Sam’s title is Being a Tale of Courageous Doings and Unsavory Folk!!! which figures, I guess. It’s interesting to note we share the fondness for the triple-exclamation eye-catching technique.
