The Full Vermonty

(Hey, it’s not my pun. It’s a real Ben and Jerry’s ice-cream flavor!)

Today we’ll do a bit of sight-seeing. A few days ago (2? 3? I can’t keep track) we sped through Vermont during the late morning and early afternoon. It’s a big and empty country, Vermont. About 24,000 sq. miles (the second largest New England state, and a bit bigger than Israel) but only 600,000 inhabitants. It’s cold here in winter – every third exit leads to a ski resort and every fifth sign warns of icy bridges.

Other signs are more fun:

On a small island in a small lake we found an antique shop, an old house filled to the rafters with old knickknacks and doodads, old books and 45′ singles and furniture and cutlery and everything – ranging from the early 1800’s to the Nixon administration and beyond. 19th century tobacco canisters, old walking sticks and household tools, an adirondack-style Keep Out sign and even a nearly complete collection of Playboy magazines. It started raining while we were in there and it was simply too tempting to stay in there with the old junk and Louid Armstrong in the background.

We didn’t stay long in Vermont, though. We moved up to Canada from there. Maybe some pictures will follow.
