1 Jan 2004Some legal issues I am unclear about:
1) If I own a CD, can I legally make a copy to listen to in my car? At the office?
2) Must this copy be in the same format as the original? Can it be a tape? MP3s?
3) Does this hold for specific tracks out of the album? If I have an illegally downloaded best-of album featuring several songs from an album I own, would they be legal while the rest aren’t?
4) To reiterate question 2 – if I own an old vinyl record, am I also the legal owner of a copy of the same songs on CD?

1. כן, כל זמן שזה לשימוש עצמי.
2. לא. אתה יכול לבחור בפורמט אחר.
3+4. מבחינה חוקית זה אסור. העותק שלך צריך להילקח מהמקור החוקי. אם הורדת את העותק מהאינטרנט, העותק אינו חוקי.

I believe that different albums and different distributions give different rights.
