I had an idea for a new theme for a playlist or mix CD, but I can’t seem to find enough tracks to fill it. I’d love some recommendations.

The theme is songs that mention another singer in the title. I’m a sucker for intertextuality and self-referential humor. So sue me.

So far, I’ve got:

1. Bongwater – David Bowie Wants Ideas.
2. Bongwater – Nick Cave Dolls.
3. David Bowie – Song for Bob Dylan.
4. Bob Dylan – Bob Dylan’s Dream.
5. Belle and Sebastian – Like Dylan In The Movies. (Not sure we’re talking about the same Dylan here, but whatever).
6. Dire Straits – Calling Elvis.

(Note the trend – everyone sings about Dylan. Even Dylan sings about Dylan).

Ok, now I’m stuck. Bring it on.

חווה אלברשטיין, שרה גם היא על ג’ניס ב”הקיסרית הלבנה”.
יש עוד, אבל אני לא זוכרת עכשיו.

I’m trying to avoid references and insinuations, and prefer explicitly naming other artists in the title. It makes the theme clearer and the search harder, both of which are good things.

I guess “Father Was A Rolling Stone” doesn’t cut it, though, eh?

BTW, another Dylan reference is Hemi Rudner’s לכל אחד יש את הבוב שלו (in the lyrics it’s made clear that “Bob” means “Dylan” to her and “Marley” to him).

Also, who was it who sang “כמה טוב להיות גידי גוב”?

Oh, and if self-reference is also in, Eminem has a couple of songs I can think of titled after his various names and nicks – “Marshall Mathers”, “The Real Slim Shady”, “I’m Shady”.

“Father was a Rolling Stone” not only doesn’t cut it, it’s grounds for getting slapped.
I think “כמה טוב להיות גידי גוב” was העולם הערב, i.e, Avri Gilead and Erez Tal. I’m scared it might be Comedy Store, though. But when I listen to it in my head, I head Gilead’s nasal whiny voice.

Classical:
From Hank to Hendrix – Neil Young
Hats off to (Roy) Harper – Led Zeppelin
ooh, and another Neil Young – Buffalo Springfield again

There’s also Anouk’s “Tom Waits” which I never understood if it is about the artist, or just about a bloke called Tom, who waits for (or on?) something.

Then, of-course, I’m sure you’ll find many self referencial titles.
From the top of my head, again – The miseducation of lauryn Hill, and also eminem (but IOD already beat me to it).

אבל זה לא חוכמה שירים שמזכירים זמרים אחרים בטקסט – כאלו יש המון. אבל אבנר דיבר על שירים עם שמות של זמרים ב*שם* של השיר. שזה יש הרבה פחות.
