1) Hot Fur
The show was fun. The crowd wasn’t big and the venue was quite large, so it seemed a bit empty, but the music was good, the band seemed to have fun, and even the actors doing the segues and bits between songs didn’t bother me too much, even though I didn’t care for them much.
The musicians themselves aren’t very good performers – they don’t have flash and style – but the they made up for it with the music.
2) Ahvak.
Show was definitely professional – sound and lighting doing their work, and the players definitely know their way around their instruments. Unfortunately, that’s most of the up side of the review. The music itself was disjointed – every minute or two it would break away to a completely different bit, causing the whole show to be just a long streak of one-minute sections. Even the ones that were good were impossible to get into.
Add to that the fact that most of the music was also uninteresting – perhaps technically or compositionally interesting, but quite boring to actually listen to – and the fact that they were seemed to be far too businesslike and not having fun – and all in all the evening dragged along slowly.
